AEROSMITH Guitarist Set For LES PAUL Salute Next Week

February 1, 2006

Launch Radio Networks reports: Guitarists Joe Perry from AEROSMITH and Neal Schon from JOURNEY are among those taking part in a tribute concert to music industry legend Les Paul next week. The Les Paul & Friends: 90th Birthday Salute takes place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, next Tuesday (February 7),and it's a benefit for A Place Called Home, which helps at-risk inner-city young people avoid trouble and become productive members of society through mentoring, scholarships, and programs in the arts and literacy. Also performing at the show will be Edgar Winter, TOTO's Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani, modern rock act SWITCHFOOT, and country stars Merle Haggard and Alison Krauss, among others, as well as Les Paul and his trio.

The event is part of the year-long Les Paul celebration that began last May with him being inducted into the National Inventors' Hall Of Fame, followed in June by his getting the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall Of Fame on his 90th birthday and the all-star concert All For Paul: Les Paul's 90th Birthday Salute at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Last year also saw the release of the tribute album "Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played", which featured him performing with Perry, Schon, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Steve Miller, Keith Richards, ZZ TOP's Reverend Billy F. Gibbons, Peter Frampton, Rick Derringer, Richie Sambora from BON JOVI, and Sting.

Along with his songwriting and playing, Les Paul is well-known as the inventor of the solid-body electric guitar that bears his name, along with innovations in the recording industry that are still used today.

Even at the age of 90, Les Paul continues to perform every Monday night at the Iridium jazz club in New York City.
